EXPERIENCE MATTERS

Brent’s Experience

With over two decades of distinguished service in law enforcement, Brent has built a career defined by leadership, tactical expertise, and a deep commitment to officer training and development.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, Brent joined the Knox County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) in 1999. That same year, after attending the KCSO Regional Training Academy, becoming a certified police officer authorized under the authority of the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission, Brent was assigned to the Patrol Division, where he served until 2016.

In 2001, he became a certified firearms instructor, marking the beginning of a long-standing focus on officer training. Throughout his tenure with KCSO, Brent rose through the ranks—sergeant, lieutenant, and captain—ultimately being appointed Assistant Chief Deputy in 2017.

From 2016 to 2022, Brent served as the principal firearms instructor and defensive tactics instructor at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy. In this role, he led POST certification training for law enforcement agencies throughout Tennessee in addition to leading and coordinating annual in-service instruction for both KCSO as well as personnel from numerous respective sister agencies.

Continuing his service as an Assistant Chief Deputy, in July 2022, Brent transitioned from KCSO Training to the Schools Division of Patrol.

Initially joining the KCSO Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team in 2005, Brent ultimately rose to the position of SWAT Commander in 2018—a prestigious specialized unit of which he remained a dedicated member until his retirement in 2024.
